Patty Pan Grill

Patty Pan Grill is new to the Carnation Farmers Market in 2012, but is a familiar booth at markets in the Seattle area.  In fact, Patty Pan Grill is the oldest farmers’ market prepared food vendor in the Emerald City, serving up quesadillas and tamales made with seasonal vegetables since 1997.  Their best seller is the Grilled Veggie Quesadilla—you’ll want the bigger portion.  For the kids they have pint-sized portions to please their youngest fans.

Patty Pan Grill started out as a meal delivery service, eventually changing course to focus on farmers’ markets in the Puget Sound area and bringing affordable menu options made with local ingredients.  Owner Devra Gartenstein says that her mission is to make good, quality food, and to make it accessible.  Patty Pan Grill has taken this philosophy to heart, cutting prices in half for the unemployed.  The vegetables being sautéed up in the Patty Pan Grill booth may well have come from one of the farmers at the Carnation Farmers Market.  And, in addition to using local produce, the corn used in Patty Pan Grill’s fare is GMO-free and their meat is local and grass-fed.

At the Patty Pan Grill stand, look for Devra’s books: two vegan cookbooks that focus on local, seasonal recipes titled The Accidental Vegan and Local Bounty.  Devra’s third and most recent publication, Cavemen, Monks, and Slow Food: A History of Eating Well, tracks humanity’s eating habits through the ages.  Devra loves being at market and the special community that each farmers market fosters.  This Seattle-founded business brings tasty options to our small town market.
