The Tolt Commons Community Shelter project is a partnership between the City of Carnation and the Sno-Valley Tilth for the purpose of providing a weekly community event for the Carnation Farmers Market on Tuesdays during the market season, and for a community gathering place throughout the year for picnics, gatherings, special events and more.
The seed money for this project came from USDA funds for a permanent market shelter which would allow for an extended market season. Currently, the market starts in May and ends in November due to weather and short daylight hours, while many of our farmers and food vendors have product throughout the year such as root crops, greens, winter squash, dairy, eggs, meat, baked goods, honey and more.
The city has also identified that creating a downtown plaza gathering area is an important component for a vital downtown area which will draw people to town and attract visitors from around the region. They have also identified the Carnation Farmers Market as a valuable community asset.
